(More customer reviews)I recently used this tool to remove a muffler from a pipe. It worked very well. The key benefits of this tool are that it is quiet, it requires no power to operate, and it allows you get much closer to mufflers and other objects compared to a sabre saw or sawsall.
The bit problem here is what I have seen with other Lisle tools: the marketing folks don't understand what they are selling and hence screw up the packaging. In this case, there were absolutely NO INSTRUCTIONS, and if the buyer does not have any previous knowledge of pipe or tubing cutters, they may get very messed up and disappointed.
So here are some instructions! Unscrew the handle so that the tool can placed on the pipe to be cut. Make sure the tools is positioned such that it can rotated AT LEAST 1/4 turn around the pipe. Tighten the handle so that the cutters contact the pipe and just slightly more. The tool should feel snug, but rotate easily. Apply a few drops of cutting oil (penetrating oil can be used). Rotate the tool around the pipe and then pull it back to the original position. You will notice a very thin line in the metal under the cutters. Tighten the handle approximately 1/8 turn to maintain the original snug fit, then rotate back and forth again. Repeat this process of tightening and rotating until you cut through the pipe. Expect something like 5-10 iterations. You will probably find there is a small section that didn't cut all the way through at the end, but either wiggling the pipe or a few strokes with a hacksaw will break it all the way off.
