Borla 60512 X Pipe Review

(More customer reviews)With my new 2011 Camaro SS L99, the large boxy shaped stock exhaust was obviously engineered to be dampen the resonance. I added the GM Performance axle back exhaust, but it still sounded too much like a V6. This X-pipe further reduced more of the boxy crimped shaped resonator stuff under the driveshaft that looks rather restrictive to exhaust flow. Once the X-pipe was installed, it definitely compliments the GM performance exhaust & awakens that throaty sound, without going overboard.
As expected, there is slightly more exhaust sound & rumble while inside the car, but not too much. With the L99 V8 switching between 4 & 8 cylinders around town, the exhaust tone inside the car is definitely more noticeable with exhaust pitch changes as cylinders activate/deactivate. But while cruising at highway speeds, the interior sound between stock & Borla X pipe is nearly the same.
Some other exhaust combos provide much louder (and desirable) exhaust but there is a definite resonance/drone sound while riding around inside the car. I did not want to to have to listen to my wife complain about wearing ear plugs, so this is what I found works best.
Stand on the accelerator and man, what a difference. Zero problems with popping sound when downshifting. The weight difference between the boxy stock and sleek performance exhaust is probably 35 lbs lighter.
Note: per the installation manual, this is "for vehicles with an installed Borla (11774/11775) or GM Performance rear muffler system". Possibly due to the fact that the large stock muffler box pipes behind the axle, when cut off from stock pipes in the rear, won't have the wider open pipe end, which is required to fit over the end of the X pipe, plus the stock exhaust weight that it would have to support.
