(More customer reviews)I needed to put a flare on the end of a pipe and this tool was the only way to do it short of a $2000+ machine.
In addition to doing flares, this tool is a good way to make expanded portions of pipe so you can slide it over another piece to make a joint. I have the more common type of expander tool and the KD product works much better.
You will need a sledge hammer and some elbow grease but this tool will get the job done very nicely. It also helps to have a vice designed to help pipe. It works best if you work slowly, with one good pound with the hammer and then remove and rotate the tool.
It takes time but it creates perfect flares.

(More customer reviews)This tool is well made. It works fairly well, but I wouldn't recommend using it more than occasionally. It requires an air impact wrench, and a lot of air pressure around 160 psi for several minutes. You have to keep it well lubed with anti-sieze paste. you should keep rotating the tool in the pipe, loosen it, rotate, tighten, repeat, or it will stretch the pipe out of round. Also wear ear plugs! You will also have to buy an additional extender at about $20, if you are working on anything larger than a compact car.

Lisle 32500 Exhaust Pipe Expander 1 5/8" to 2 7/16" Review

(More customer reviews)Although this is called a pipe expander, I think it is really just for removing dents, clamp marks and to round up the pipes. I bought it to EXPAND the pipe ends one size larger for an overlap fit. I tried it and it did expand the pipe, and it did not break, which is what happened to the Harbor Freight product I tried. The pipes I am working with are 1.75 inch exhaust header pipes, 16 and 18 guage. I am trying to get a slide in fit. It takes a large lever like a 2 ft breaker bar to get enough power, so it is expecting a lot from the tool. Another advantage to this type is the rubber O rings that hold it all togeother are on the handle, not inserted into the pipe, so some heat can be used without melting the rubber.
