The Walker stainless steel muffler is a reasonably priced replacement part. I have a 1994 Honda Accord, and this muffler is very quiet. I also purchased the Walker Exhaust 46865 Resonator Assembly (a.k.a. central silencer, pipe B) from Amazon.
Initially I should mention the packaging... or lack thereof. The muffler was shipped without any packaging whatsoever, aside from the box tape which was used to cover the ends of the piping. The shipping label and invoice were glued directly to the muffler. I was quite disappointed that Amazon chose to ship the product this way, since an exhaust gets HOT, which means that anything on the exhaust will burn or melt. Thus, I had to remove four stickers (though only three are attributable to Amazon): two different shipping labels and a plastic invoice holder, the fourth was Walker's own product label. A putty knife, some goo gone, and a half hour later the product was clean and ready to install. Also, because there was no packaging to protect the muffler during shipping, I received it with some dents. While I would consider them cosmetic, it is somewhat disconcerting to receive a product that appears to have been mishandled or a factory second.
It should also be noted that this muffler does NOT come with any other hardware or gaskets. Assuming that you still have the rubber hanger/insulator parts (Walker Exhaust 35286 Hardware-Insulator 3x for the muffler), you will also need the resonator-muffler gasket Walker Exhaust 31360 Hardware-Gasket, and the spring bolt kit Walker Exhaust 35129 Hardware-Spring Bolt Kit. Instead of going with the Walker part, I opted to make my own from entirely stainless steel components. (I was not sure that all the parts in the Walker bolt kit are stainless.) Plus, gathering the parts from my local hardware store (shout out to Shell Lumber on 27th Ave in Miami!), my cost was less than the price of the Walker kit. I would highly recommend stainless components on exhaust parts, since they are prone to corroding.
The muffler itself was not quite as advertised. The muffler body is stainless steel. The piping, however, is NOT stainless steel, but is instead aluminized steel. This is quite disappointing, since Walker advertises the product as being stainless steel. I suppose the lifetime warranty makes up for the fact that eventually the piping will rust out. Additionally, the hangers are regular steel and began to rust immediately (but not a big deal in my book).
Installation was straightforward, and the hangers were all in their correct places/orientations. No need to bend or manipulate the piping or hangers.
Overall, I would buy this product again, but luckily I won't have to due to Walker's lifetime guarantee: [...]. Hopefully redeeming the warranty will not prove a hassle, but that remains to be seen. Stay tuned.
