(More customer reviews)A few years ago, the muffler fell off my 92 Accord as I went over some railroad tracks. I decided to try to put a new exhaust system on myself. Not becuase I didn't trust mechanics nor was I trying to save money, I just wanted to try it and learn something. As I looked into it, I found you can by a system that bolts together, no welding. Since I have no welding experience, this would be a huge help. I found a cheap stainless steel "fart can" system that bolted together. Afer installation I found it had a nice sound but it was louder than I expected or wanted, not so loud it would bother my neighbors and it wasn't as loud as no muffler, just louder than stock exhaust. About two years later, I decided to get a new, quieter muffler. Since the system bolted together I didn't think it would be that hard to install a muffler as long as I could find one that bolted on(it would turn out I was right!!!). After searching and researching, I decided on the Walker Quietflow. Mostly for the price but also because I had read good reviews of it. After I got it and installed it, it was quieter than I expected. With the "fart can" muffler, I couldn't hold a conversation on the phone over the roar of the muffler. With the Walker Quietflow, the radio at low volume drowns out the muffler noise.
The Walker Quietflow 54061 is a standard muffler, a lot like the stock Accord muffler. It is an oval case, my old system was round and hung much lower and just looked funny. The Walker muffler fits nicely under that car with only the tail pipe and the lower portion of the muffler showing, as with the stock system. It is "aluminized" steel, not stainless. So while it has some corrosion resistance and will hopefully last a few years, it won't last as long as the 304 stainless steel muffler it replaced. Installation was a breeze, two bolts and three rubber hangers. I did have to jack one side of the car up so my wife was tired after holding one side of the car up for an hour(kidding about the wife, not about having to jack up the car). I was worried it wouldn't quite fit with the old system or that I might have to do some "under a shady tree engineering" but everything lined up perfectly, I was even able to use the bolts from the old system.
The one complaint I have is that the tubing is not mandrell bent so there are visible "ripples" at the bends. I don't that this affects performance (the muffler is certainly quiet), the ripples just look funny to me. This is simply cosmetic complaint since I just had to find something bad to say. Also, installing exhaust systems yourself means you have to find a way to dispose of the old system, keep that in mind if you plan on replacing the exhaust yourself.
Overall, I had a great experience buying and installing the Walker Quietflow muffler. It performs better than I expected (very quiet and no vibrations that I can feel while driving). If you want a quality muffler at a low price and that looks and performs like the stock muffler, the Walker Quietflow is a great choice.
