(More customer reviews)I have no performance or MPG data as of yet. I installed on a 2010 tundra 5.7L
In terms of sound, little change when cruising or idling but step on the gas and there is a pretty loud growl in the cab. There are various sound files and videos floating around but I don't think they really tell you what it sounds like.
Install: Instructions are nearly useless. Their only utility is that they give you a basic progression of steps. A couple key points when installing (based on my newbie experience):
(1) Just unscrew the mass air flow sensor and leave it attached to the cable rather than trying to unplug the cable then unscrew the sensor from the stock air pipe.
(2) pull the screw and metal pipe out of the rubber grommet that holds the stock filter box in the engine. It makes it easier to get the same rubber grommet back through the holes in the Afe box. Then you can shove the metal tube containing the screw through the rubber grommet.
(3) The 14 inch rubber sealing strip goes around the metal hole between the fender well and the engine compartment. Do not try to put it around the edge of the Afe box that goes into that hole.
(4) Once you have the rubber seal strip in place, the Afe box really just sets up against the hole, it does not tuck into it. At the point at which you have the rubber strip in the hole and the Afe box bolted down (which is not easy to get in place), the Afe box does not sit very stable, it rocks around. But once you have the airflow tube in place, things hold in place.
(5) the most annoying part is trying to shove the part of the Afe box into the fender inlet hole with the rubber seal strip in place. I could not get it to do anything other than sit up against it. This is an annoying design flaw when you consider how easily and well designed the stock filter box is in this regard.
(6) The second most annoying part is trying to screw in the bolts/grommets in the weird locations they are placed in on the Afe box. One is in a deep hole (inside the box) and the other is in a corner. And getting either bolt to settle into the hole requires some pushing and shoving.
In the end, even a total newbie with little or not mechanical ability was able to get it installed in an hour or so and that was after trying 2-3 different ways to try and get the rubber seal to fit.
Have fun. At the end of the day, its a nice product.
