(More customer reviews)I love these clamps. I've been using stainless band clamps on my exhaust since I found out about them around 10 years ago, and have been very happy with them all. The set I first put on are still shiny and new looking (after I wipe the dirt off), despite being on a daily driver which sees snow and salt every year.
These pre-formed lap joint style clamps are very nice on a lap-style joint, obviously. I like not having to stretch the clamp out like I used to with the old flat clamps. The Dynomax clamps come with a lump of sealant goo in the joint which improves the seal over just a bare clamp. They also have a bar on one side with threaded holes, essentially making for captive nuts. This makes the install easier, but if you strip one, you need to find a nut and washer. These can definitely be stripped, which is why I gave the clamp 4 stars. If you go too nuts on the tightening (I usually use an impact wrench, and sometimes forget to reduce the torque), the threads will come right out. If you read the directions and only tighten to about 60 ft-lbs, though, it'll be fine. I'd prefer a stronger "real" nut, though, as car guys - like myself - tend to see a relatively big bolt and just tighten the snot out of it, and we don't read directions. :)
Anywho, I have several of these exact clamps in use on four cars currently, and none have failed (except for the one I stripped out, which is working fine now with a nut in place) after several years. I'll definitely buy more when I next build an exhaust. I especially like using these on the inlet and outlet side of the muffler, since it doesn't dent the pipe and lets me replace the muffler / disassemble the exhaust for removal as needed. Welds or cheap u-style clamps don't let me do that...
My other useful tip: use anti-seize on the bolts before you install them. The threaded insert doesn't appear to be steel, and the anti-seize makes any future disassembly a lot more convenient. You'll be glad you did.
