(More customer reviews)I bought these to replace the Original mufflers on my 2001 Aurora. I wanted something with the original OEM sound, i.e. quiet. These mufflers were as close to OEM that I could find. Overall, very happy with these, the look and sound good. Installation was very easy and the fit was perfect. Quality appears to be very good.
Only thing I liked better on the old muffler is that it flares from the round pipe to the oval/rectangular tailpipe. These have the same look, however there is no flare, it is just an oval piece welded around the round tailpipe. You can't really tell unless you look really closely.
Installation:
I was concerned about the stainless steel exhaust pipe and how difficult it would be to cut it, how the fit would be to the new muffler, and if I would have to play with where to cut it so that the muffler fit into the correct position. No problems whatsoever:
1) I rented a tailpipe cutter from Autozone. Position the cutter as close to the existing muffler as possible (about 3/4" away) and cut the pipe.
2) Clean off the end of the hanger holding the muffler in place and lubricate with oil or grease - this helps to remove the muffler from the hanger.
3) Remove the old muffler and replace with the new one. Install the hanger end first and then slide the muffler pipe over the stainless steel exhaust pipe. I had to use a small grinder to clean the edge of the stainless pipe up from the cut. The fit is very good, which is nice.
4) Use a 1 7/8" muffler clamp to clamp the muffler in place. As soon as the clamp is snug, check the position of the muffler and the angle of the oval tailpipe to see that it is correctly positioned. Finish tightening the clamp.
