(More customer reviews)I ordered this AFE Pro Dry CAI for my 2007 Wrangler JK. Went with AFE to get their matching throttle body as well. It appeared to be the best manufactured air intake on the market without going to a complete snorkel system. Upon receipt, I was immediately faced with the fact that the adapter had to be bolted to the housing. Ironically the housing is molded so poorly, that the holes nearly need drilled out in order to get the screws into the tube adpater ring. After getting around this issue, I was very displeased with how poor the instructions were for removing the original air box and installing the new one. Being an engineer, I easily got through this. Other individuals will likely be confused. I also found that the tube is basically too short. Pressure must be placed on the box to mount the tube between housing and throttle body. I have not installed the silver bullet throttle body yet. I anticipate this will help eliminate the "fit" issues, but without that piece, it's a very precarious fit. As irritating as these issues are, I easily got around them and completed the removal and install in about one hour.
Now, the WORST problem. The metal cover plate is horrible! There is no gasketing between the cover plate and the box. To make matters worse, the cover is held on by two thumb screws! The plate literally is arched over the housing and you can see air under it and around it. My speculation is that this system will suck 90% of the air from around the cover as opposed to from the manifold!
I'm use to TRD air intakes. These are gasketed everywhere! The cover plates have numerous screws in them to properly close the box and make it air-tight, except for the intended intake manifold/hole.
This air intake is so far from air tight that it's going to essentially be sucking air from directly under the hood. With a JK, there really is no good air intake system as it breaths under the hood no matter what unless you go with a snorkel.
I will say that the system makes the engine sound nice and purr. Cleanable filters are also my preference from a cost point of view. I also have no doubt that there is a very minimal increase in HP due to the better filter system, insulated tube, and larger box for circulation. But to think that this CAI actually has the "C" (Cold) is a complete and total farce. I will likely try to find some adhesive gasket material to place under the lid.
Go with someone elses system like the Banks. Do not buy this one.
