(More customer reviews)Bought this for a Ford F-150 that wouldn't pass the smog inspection. I thought I would be able to find a way to install it myself, but after looking at it and at the exhaust system, I realized there was just no way I could do that. It had to be inert-gas welded. It is all stainless steel, which is good, but welding stainless steel is not something I can do. I could have welded carbon steel, but welding stainless is a bit much for most home mechanics. I tried to figure out some other way to mount it, but that was just not practical. I was hoping that it would come with some sort of kit or adapters or instructions to provide for do-it-yourself installation, but it didn't.
As it turned out, I needed professional installation help anyway, because the truck actually has two catalytic converters and when I did take it to a muffler shop to have it installed, they found that the other one (of a totally different geometry) was also shot and needed to be replaced as well. I did save a little bit of money getting a good deal on this one from Amazon, but the whole replacement cost way more than the cost of this part.
Replacing the two converters did solve the smog test problem though, and it passed with flying colors after that.
