I have a 4cyl 2001 Subaru Outback wagon and used this to replace the factory cat that had been throwing CEL's for two years. The unit is lower profile that the factory cat and seems to be of high quality construction. Heck, the welds look better on the Bosal cat than they do on the old factory one. Since installation my CEL is cleared and hasn't come back on in 1000mi so I'm assuming it fixed my issue. In general installation was a good experience and I'm glad I went with the Bosal cat, but I have a few issues with giving it a full five stars:
1. The pipe mounting flanges on this unit have slots, not holes, so the spring bolts on the rear flange couldn't bottom out as they did on the factory cat. Not a big deal, but I feel like I need to check them every few thousand miles to make sure they haven't wobbled out.
2. The support member on this unit is a single cantilevered metal piece and is somewhat easy to deform. The factory cat's support member is an extremely rigid triangular arm. While the new cat's member wasn't hard to bend to fit properly, it's the last attachment point for the exhaust system until you get to the muffler 4 feet away -- not exactly confidence inspiring.
4. The cat arrived from Amazon with a bit of stretch wrap over the pipe and O2 sensor bung on each end. And that was it. The support member and flanges were open to nicks and dings and I had to bend the support member back into place. This was the first time I was disappointed with Amazon's packaging.
