I expected that it would have to be assembled, but what I didn't expect was a complete lack of directions. Seriously, you have to build the thing based on a stock photo. What's up with that?
As far as construction goes, just look at the parts. Count how many you have and you'll quickly figure out how everything goes together. Some of the parts are labeled, but the others you sort of have to guess. Protip: When attaching the "arms" with the end pieces, use a metal washer, a large plastic washer, and another metal washer. The black plastic ones are for attaching the arms to the frame.
As far as putting it on the car, that's not as easy as you'd expect, either. I did it fairly easily by attaching the rear hooks first, then unscrewing the front bolts to get a little extra length, attaching the front clamps, then screwing it back in.
Seriously, though, it's a cool product. The price is a bit high, but whatever. If you have a Miata, you're kind of used to it.
