(More customer reviews)Purchased this catback system for my '01 Durango R/T. My experience with this system was one of ease and simplicity. The quality of the components was superb, with a mirror polish on both the muffler and the tip. Installation was a snap, with the only mildly difficult part being (of course) removal of the old exhaust.
PROS:
* Great looks
* Great sound
* Supposed better performance (haven't noticed personally, but have only driven with it on for 12 miles)
* Comes with flat bands rather than U-bolt clamps to avoid crimping the pipes and thus allowing much easier future removal or adjustment
* Lifetime warranty
CONS:
* Instructions cover two different systems and state the extension is only needed for the 4.7 engine, but I needed it for my install with a 5.9. Turns out that statement only applies to '98-99 models, which was very unclear in the directions. Along with that, only two exhaust bands were included whereas three were required for my installation. The instructions say to reuse the front clamp from the stock exhaust system, which Magnaflow has to know is almost universally impossible on a vehicle that's at least seven years old (the kit covers '98-03 models). Not a problem for installations that don't use the extension (i.e. '98-99 models), and maybe not a problem when the kit first came out when these trucks were new on dealers' lots, but I believe it should have come with enough hardware to cover all advertised installation configurations. In my case, I could not install the system out of the box but had to make a special trip to an auto parts store across town. That's not acceptable for a system with an MSRP well over $600.
BOTTOM LINE:
For the price I paid ($233.07 direct from Amazon thanks to a 30%-off promo code they had for a couple days in late April 2010) I'd buy it again in a heartbeat, despite the issue mentioned above. Can't say for sure how much more I'd have been willing to pay, but for a mandrel-bent, stainless-steel system with a lifetime warranty I think it's safe to say it's worth a lot more than the crimped, galvanized pipes you'd end up with at a local muffler shop. Not being complete and ready to install out of the box is what keeps this from being a five-star system.
