Hopefully anybody that might be considering purchasing the exhaust JOHNJASONCHUN is listing on this BORLA page will read this! Or hopefully anyone that didn't realize will be informed now- CAREFUL! johnjasonchun is listed as a MarketPlace seller of a Borla 11732 but its not so slow down before you go clicking the add to cart!
(go to bottom for a short Borla review)
Yes, look at the customer pictures he posted. Also make sure you look at the two I posted of the exhaust he is selling. That's right, I got suckered in to purchasing it believing it was the Borla system. I saw no mention that HIS was not Borla, and when I opened the box all I could say is What the F%^*..?
Thankfully Amazon was EXTREMELY good at helping resolve the situation (the seller was refusing to take it back). JohnJasonChun would only say "Stainless Like Borla. BETTER than Borla. Look at pictures". Then he would continually respond with "You didn't read. your fault. you didn't look at pictures. your fault"
Look at the two pictures I provided .. Better than Borla? Right!!! Thankfully he was forced to change his description which also now appears right in his listing(you'll see when you select 'also available from $xxx' link) rather than being buried in yet another link.
ANYWAY, THIS is what you will get if after reading this you choose to buy:
Glasspack- 22" long, 3 1/2" case, 3" inlet and outlet, 409 stainless or (most likely) Aluminized steel. Best I could find that matches this is a Jones on Summit (4" not 3 1/2" case) for $28.95
2 1/2" 409 stainless pipe
Exhaust flange NOT for Miata but cut and drilled to fit (see pic)
4 1/2 " Dynamax DNX exhaust tip (maybe $25?) And what's with 4 1/2" on Miata? RICE! (not that anything is wrong with that)
Fabrication: Wrong muffler sizing- 2 1/2 pipe into 3" muffler? Thus you'll notice excessive welds to fill in the 'space'. Wrong flange: hacked up to fit Miata.
He's asking $250. Well, you can buy all the RIGHT parts (size) for probably less than $50 and go to a good muffler shop and have them install it for $75-$100 (it's $75 in my area). You'll end up with something better for $100-$125 less.
Now is all that being an 'emotional child'? JohnJasonChun seems to think so.But if you're interested in the Borla, I have had two Borla systems, both excellent in quality. Neither was for Miata, but since with any system, sound is subjective and performance difference mostly marginal, it's QUALITY that makes the dufference. I still own an SVT that has a Borla cat back which is now 10 years old. Aside from being dirty, it is still like new (no rust, all welds still like new). And on that car, the Borla sounds SWEET, especially in the 6-7K rpm range!
