(More customer reviews)I checked with Walker Exhaust e-mail customer support, and they confirmed that what I received was an old-fashioned "aluminized steel" Quiet-Flow 3 and NOT the promised Quiet-Flow SS with 409 Stainless construction.
I believe that Walker has likely stopped production of the 21191 models because they fit 12+ year-old vehicles...that's to say I doubt you CAN buy a 21191 SS, regardless of what you see on any website...if you look at the (admittedly stock) photos closely, they all show the "QF3" raised stamping on the muffler case instead of an "SS". Walker stopped making QF3s in 2008.
I bought this because, while I liked the sound and low-restriction of my previous QF3 (nicely quiet though with a bit of rumble under spirited acceleration and very acceptable drone at highway speed), it has rusted out in approximately two years (they ladle thousands of tons of salt on the roads around me). And while SAE Type 409 stainless is the very cheapest type of stainless steel with only moderate "hot corrosion" protection, I figured it would at least be a little bit better than the QF3. But no, stainless replacement exhaust parts apparently will have to wait for my next vehicle.
If you live in a mild climate away from salt spray, sure, a QF3 is a good choice, but in the Rust Belt be prepared to swap out this puppy in short order...that's why Walker decided to upgrade construction, I'm positive...they were developing a bad reputation for their "premium" products melting into dust and flakes after 24 months, "Lifetime Warranty" or not.
